While the online service is the ideal delivery format for many of our users, we understand that a lot of people would prefer a desktop application that they can run on their own computers.

We are therefore working hard to release a desktop application version of the software as soon as we can.

When will it be released?

There is no release date set as of this writing - we will make an announcement on the blog as soon as one is set, so please subscribe to the blog if you want to be the first to know when it will be released (subscribing to "major" news is sufficient, which is the default when you sign up).

What do I do in the meantime?

In order to allow you to use the site without worry in the meantime, we have a limited time only special, where the first $50 you spend on this site is creditable towards a copy of the desktop application when it becomes available.

Will it work on my computer?

Supported operating systems

Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.3 and higher are the officially supported operating systems.

The program will not work on earlier versions of Windows or OS X.

There is no Linux version planned at this time. We will make a minor announcement on the blog should this change. Please let us know if you're interested in a Linux version. A Linux version would cost the same as the Windows/Mac versions and would not be open-source.

Supported hardware

The algorithms employed by Vector Magic use advanced features available only in modern processors and significant amounts of memory (memory consumption depends on the size of your input image with larger images requiring more memory).

This means that you will need a computer with at least a pentium III class processor and a recommended minimum of 512 megabytes of RAM. For larger (>1,000x1,000 pixels) images we recommend 1 gigabyte of RAM or more.

The maximum size of images that you will be able to process with the desktop application will depend on the available memory.

How much will it cost?

No price has been set as of this writing.

What features will it have?

While the precise feature set is yet to be determined, we are shooting for a "professional edition" style feature set, with more knobs than the online edition as well as batch support.

There will also be a simplified interface with a look and feel similar to the online edition.

Fine print

The first $50 that you spend on this site will be creditable towards the purchase of one copy of the first version of the to-be-released desktop application.

This credit is non-transferrable and valid for three months from the point of release of the application.

Vector Magic reserves the right to end this offer at any time, at which point no further expenditures made on this site will count towards the eventual purchase of the desktop application. Expenditures made while the offer was still in effect will still count towards such purchase. In case Vector Magic chooses to end this offer, this will be a major announcement on the blog.
